2006 - Spirit is my flea bitten gray Arabian gelding in his early 20s.  I bought him about 7 years ago to resale.  After having him around a few weeks, I realized he was way too good of a horse to send down the road.  Since he has been giving lessons & trail rides, he has earned over $12,000.  Well worth the $500 purchase price.  I do have a little trouble keeping weight on him.  In the winter, he requires a blanket, pasture & extra grain as well as prime hay.  This summer, he has been fed extra grain & glucosamine everyday & still remains a little thin but appears to be quite healthy.  Have you ever seen a horse whose hooves are squared off because he drags his hind feet?  Spirit would be my first.  He is gentle enough to put 4 y/o on by themselves.  His only bad habit is trying to go to the middle of the arena during lessons so he can "rest".  His internal clock usually tells him when lessons should be over, so heaven forbid when we have 3 hours instead of 2.  I am very fortunate to have such a nice little horse:  easy to catch, stands still for saddling, easy to bridle, very docile & good natured, never biting or kicking or even pinning his ears back.  Spirit is often new lesson students first horse & they immediately fall in love with him.  I've seen tears when it's time for the student to move on to a more advanced horse.  If there ever was a horse I would trust my own child on,  it would be Spirit.
