Sassy is a 13 year old Bay AQHA Mare.  Her dam is my 26 y/o golden palomino mare, Shirley & her palomino sister Blondi live here as well.

Sassy was born just minutes before I arrived at the barn.  She was still wet & I was excited that she was black.  Unfortunately, she dried off & turned bay.  It's amazing that Sassy was gentle & very easy to train since the same year I had Wildfire's foal Spitfire who was the "apple of my eye".  I spent all of my time with him & don't know how Sassy learned to lead or tie.  One day I decided to train her to ride & just saddled her up & off we went.

An excellent lesson & trail horse, she stands around 15.1 h & weighs 1200#.  Last year I was having trouble catching her so we went to the round pen for John Lyons "Round Pen Reasoning" (video I have for rent) & after 2 or 3 ten minute sessions, I've never had another problem.  My bay mare has been the Southern IL & Missouri trail horse for many novice riders over the years.

One thing that I have yet to figure out is why Sassy was always slow & lazy until about 3 years ago & now her personality has changed to that of a more energetic, responsive horse.  Normally lesson horses get more lazy not vice versa.

Someday I may raise a foal out of Sassy since her personality is very mild & gentle.  Both her mother & sister have produced very nicely colored & built foals.
