January 2009
Add another fun horse activity I have tried. Mid January, my friend Cindy came out to practice mounted shooting and I decided to give it a try. We were shooting a Ruger 45 with blanks at balloons in the indoor arena. I really didn't think I would hit my targets at a canter but it was easier than I expected. Good times! The closest place for Cindy to compete is 2 1/2 hours away! Let me know if you are interested in mounted shooting here at Coyote Creek. Check it out on youtube.com and search mounted shooting.
Winter weather, I hate it! The upside, I have sold several winter blankets to horse owners in the last month. I also get a chance to catch my breath after the busy spring, summer and fall schedule of horseshows, sorting shows & practices, an average of 25 riding lessons per week, weekly trail rides, baling hay, mowing and dragging pastures, everyday horse care and tack shop work. By the time Christmas is over, things slow down for a couple months except for the planning of all the new year events at the stables….and let's not forget tax preparation. Usually I go to Mexico for a week in Jan or Feb but not this year. What a bummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The cattle sorting shows have been going well, usually around 50 teams. Practices have been very slow! If not for the shows, I would sell the cattle, but for now we are trudging along feeding the fat little heifers night and day!
I had 2 different sets of overnight boarders arrive on the same day in mid Jan. One guy was a repeat boarder from Minnesota traveling with his horse for 3 months Parreli training in Florida. The other group were from WI going to Florida to train 12 of their horses at Lynn Palm's ranch for 2 months. 3 warm bloods and 1 Fresian were among the traveling horses.
